Award Categories

Award Description
Outstanding Physician This award recognizes an outstanding physician who is notable for their service to PHA and in promoting excellent clinical care, research, education and advocacy on behalf of PH patients.
Outstanding Allied Health Professional This award recognizes an allied health care professional’s contributions to the PH community through raising awareness, participating in advocacy efforts, fundraising, service to PHA or providing kind and compassionate care to PH patients.
Outstanding PH Citizen (Patient) This award recognizes a PH patient who exemplifies dedication to the PH community by raising awareness, participating in advocacy efforts, fundraising, service to PHA or advocating for the PH community.
Outstanding Young PH Citizen (PHA Teens, PHA’s Generation Hope) This award is given to a person under 30 years old who exemplifies dedication to the PH community by raising awareness, participating in advocacy efforts, fundraising, service to PHA or advocating for the PH community.
Outstanding Caregiver This award recognizes a non-patient caregiver who focuses their efforts on ensuring a loved one with PH has the best quality of life possible. This person exemplifies dedication to the PH community by raising awareness, participating in advocacy efforts, fundraising, service to PHA or advocating for the PH community.
Outstanding PHA Support Group Leader This award is given to a leader or co-leader of a PHA support group who provides a welcoming environment for patients, families and friends of PH patients; champions and serves PHA by leading local efforts to raise awareness; participating in advocacy efforts and acting as a PH ambassador to the public.
PHA Philanthropy Award This award recognizes outstanding charitable commitment and generosity that encourages financial support for PHA. The first recipients of this award in 2024 were Ed and Judy Simpson, co-founders of the organization that became PHA in 1991 along with Judy’s sister Pat Paton, Teresa Knazik, Dorothy Olson and their husbands.
Julie Hendry Memorial Scholarship Award (Non-patient Volunteer) This award is named in loving memory of Julie Paton Hendry — daughter of PHA founding members Pat and Jerry Paton — the first full-time, non-patient PHA volunteer. Her family established the Julie Hendry Memorial Scholarship Award in her memory to help a non-patient volunteer attend PHA conferences, which held a special place in Julie’s heart. This award is self-nominated. Applicants can be extended family, friends and supporters who help advance PHA’s mission to extend and improve the lives of those affected by PH. Professionals employed in the care of PH patients are not eligible to apply.
The Rino Aldrighetti Leadership Award This award is named in loving memory of Rino Aldrighetti, PHA’s first president and CEO. The Rino Aldrighetti Leadership Award recognizes exceptional leadership in advancing PHA’s vision of a world without PH, empowered by hope. The recipient of the award receives $10,000 from PHA to further their work with the PH community. All PHA members, national and international, are eligible to apply, including physicians and other health care professionals.
